In keeping with the industrial concept of the newly built market on Aktienstrasse, the design of the market in Rüttenscheid should be adapted and upgraded.
Like the design of the market on Aktienstrasse, this is based on Essen's history as a “Ruhrpottstadt” and the defining elements of the cultural heritage of the brick, steel and iron architecture of the mine and industry.
A special feature is the large copper elements with white graphics, matching each department, which give the market its industrial charm and serve as a recognition feature. To make them stand out, the copper plates are backlit in white and the rest of the market is kept rather dark. The shiny copper plates contrast with the dark wall and become a real highlight.
Here too, the rear walls of the fresh food counter are designed with industrial windows and orange panes, which convey the color atmosphere of blast furnaces in the steel industry and molten steel. The freezer area stands out from the dark wall thanks to the white grille superstructure above the refrigerators and conveys the feeling of cool freshness.
All of these elements reflect the industrial charm and create a recognizable connection between the two markets.
