Our aim was to give customers a sense of home and well-being as soon as they enter the store. We revive the industrial era through reinterpreted and modern elements and subtly hint at the cultural roots of the city of Essen.
The design of the market is based on Essen's history as a "Ruhrpottstadt" and the formative elements of the cultural heritage of the brick, steel and iron architecture of the colliery and industry.
The materials and construction methods of the colliery sites, which were purely functional at the time, still create the characteristic industrial charm today thanks to their historical significance and local character. Material combinations of brick look, matt black finished metal profiles, exposed supporting structure, exposed concrete and copper as well as clamped grids as room-dividing elements form a solid basis. Various copper sheets are used to give the cool industrial tone a warm touch.
The rear walls of the fresh food counter, for example, are designed with industrial windows with orange panes, the color of which conveys the mood of blast furnaces in the steel industry and molten steel. With these eye-catching elements, the architecture supports the "eating and drinking" experience in its main role and makes it a special feature.
