Edeka Reichelt

Project Overview

Builder: Edeka Reichelt
Project: Edeka Supermarket
Location: Berlin, DE
Type: New Building
Services: Design, Implementation
Area: 2500m²

The starting point for the design was the story of Truman Plaza's namesake, the former US President (reigned 1948-1953) Harry S. Truman, with a focus on the post-war Berlin period and the airlift.

In the entrance area of the market, customers are greeted by information boards that provide information about the Berlin Airlift realized by Harry S. Truman. Graphics of raisin bombers and the colors of the American flag are visible from afar on the back wall of the market. A red customer walkway inside leads across the 1,700 m² sales area and, together with the red awnings on the outside facade, forms the recognition feature for EDEKA Reichelt.

The different departments present themselves to the visitor individually and are separated from each other by floor and ceiling design. Elements such as the beams between the ceiling sails and the red customer walk connect the areas and make the market appear as a unit.

The composition of the materials aimed to create an elegant environment from materials that seemed relatively simple. Brick, corrugated aluminum sheeting, wood stained in different colors and imitation concrete give the market a high-quality and at the same time warm character that connects the history of the place, the times of reconstruction and the EDEKA brand.
