After the extensive renovation, Marktkauf Wismar opened in June 2023 with a sales area of around 6,500 m2. The supermarket has been supplying customers in the Hanseatic city since May 1993 and has now become a privatized market purchase in Wismar under the management of Edeka Nord businessman Karsten Heuer.
The basic idea of the design was to make the historic Hanseatic city with its coastal flair and diverse architecture from different eras tangible in an abstract translation. The result was a balanced material combination of wood, brick, metal, grilles and colorful accents. A concrete-look floor tile runs across the entire sales area and a “wooden walkway” made of planks marks the customer route and provides orientation.
The wooden slats on the walls are partially opened to resemble beach chairs, which, surrounded by green plants, create a nature-related, healthy atmosphere in the fruit and vegetable department and contribute to relaxation. All around the sales area, Wismar's coast can be felt through a layering of black and white beach photographs of the dunes, reed graphics and playful wooden struts. In the middle of the market, semi-transparent room dividers made of matt black metal profiles and colored Plexiglas accents create a clearer structure for the product range areas. The cheese and bread island with the adjoining 20 m long deli counter bring market character into play: Here customers stroll along the abstract skyline of Wismar, which extends along the ceiling panels, and can enjoy an extensive range.
Marktkauf Wismar creates a unique shopping experience with a holiday atmosphere for its visitors.
